July 17, 2024
Sion Improvement District Water Restrictions in Force Effective July 17, 2024
High and sustained summer temperatures have been directly connected to an unsustainable demand of water services in the Sion Improvement District resulting in exceedingly and periodically low reservoir levels. To correct this issue the Sion Improvement District is compelled to enforce water restrictions within the district boundaries.
Irrigating in excess of the allocated water allotment will force the Sion Improvement District to disconnect services until the issue has been corrected. A monetary penalty will be imposed for connection/disconnection.
By-Law No. 59
Water Use Restrictions
20.(a) No person receiving an irrigation service shall use water at a rate in excess of 5.0 U.S. gallons per minute per acre on lands classified to receive an irrigation service.
(b) No person shall irrigate at a rate in excess of 2.5 U.S. gallons per minute on lands classified to receive a domestic service.
Section (b) is to be interpreted as all areas in the direct vicinity of an occupied dwelling.
All leaks must be repaired immediately when discovered on all irrigation and domestic services.
Domestic sprinkling will be reduced to 3 times per week or every other day.
Automated sprinkler settings are to be programmed between the hours of 12:00 am and 6:00 am and not exceed 30 minutes per section once every other day.
Residents without automated sprinklers are not permitted to irrigate between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and sprinklers are not to remain in the same position longer than 30 minutes every other day.
Hand watering of animals, gardens, shrubs and flowers is permitted daily only when attended by the occupant.
Property owners with Irrigation services must ensure not to exceed allotted water allowances as per By-Law No. 59, leaks are immediately corrected, sprinklers are not stuck in a single direction and are regularly shifted to dry areas. If the property owner is unsure as to the water being utilized, he/she will be encouraged to contact the district office at 250-442-7139 and the water operator will provide assistance.
The Sion Improvement District appreciates your understanding regarding these restrictions and will continue to monitor the situation until further notice.
